  • By Camryn

This March, Japan will be introducing a digital nomad visa allowing those who work remotely to experience the rich culture of Japan for up to six months. Make the most of this new opportunity by spending the first summer in Niseko. We walk you through the requirements for this visa so you can determine if you qualify and then outline the benefits our long stay offer through the summer season.

What is the Digital Nomad Visa?

If you are interested in the Digital Nomad Visa, here is what it offers;

  • 6 months to travel or live anywhere in Japan while working remotely.
  • Approval for your spouse and/or children to join you for the duration of the visa.

What are the requirements for the Digital Nomad Visa?

This may sound like something you want to do! So, how do you qualify for this visa? There are a few prerequisites you have to show to be granted this visa. They are as follows;

  • You must be a citizen of one of these 49 countries.
  • You must show a minimum income of ¥10 million per year.
  • You must have private health insurance for the duration of your stay.
  • You must be employed by a company outside of Japan, self employed workers and freelancers included.

Why you should spend your 6 months in Niseko?

Lots of Summer Activities to Enjoy

Niseko is a beautiful landscape during summer, the snowy ski fields turn into endless greenery. There are many activities to enjoy or you can simply enjoy the scenery Niseko has to offer. Check out our blog about the 10 best summer activities in Niseko for some inspiration on what to do when you are not working.

You can also visit local farmers markets that become more frequent because of the new spring produce. Niseko locals are proud of the produce that they work hard to sell at these markets. If you want to experience true Niseko, these markets are a must visit.

Perfect Summer Temperature

During the summer months Niseko enjoys pleasant weather, we like to think it is not too hot and not too cold. June, July and August see daily average temperatures of mid 20 degrees celsius. There are plenty of sunny days and little rain making it perfect weather to explore the area. Additionally, the days become longer with more daylight. You can spend more time out and about and enjoy stunning sunsets during dinner or happy hour.

We also have a lot of guests who travel to Niseko from the mainland of Japan during summer. This is because the weather is pleasant and people are looking to escape the heat and business of summer.

Close to Everything

Niseko is also an excellent location for those who want to continue travelling around other parts of Japan. Setsu is located within a 2 hours drive to Sapporo, the capital city of Hokkaido. This also means it is convenient to travel to the New Chitose Airport making it easier to travel to the rest of Japan.

Even within the northern island of Hokkaido Niseko is close to Lake Toya where you can enjoy water activities, Shakotan for a summer beach day or Otaru, Yoichi or Nikki for more cultural experiences.
