With breathtaking views that are definitely worth the hike, a half- or full-day hiking trip will take you on an exhilarating journey across various trails through Niseko's mountain ranges. Our popular hikes which are perfect for beginners include- Shinsen-numa Marsh offers an easy walk on a well-maintained wooden path across scenic marshlands, a good starting point for those interested in a more relaxing, family-friendly stroll. Lake Hangetsu, also known as the half-moon lake, is another charming and perfect introductory hike. Located at the bottom of Mt. Yotei and surrounded by dense forests, spectacular beautiful summer and autumn colours can be seen from around the shore.

Shinsen-Numa Course

Enjoy a pleasant, scenic walk for the whole family at Shinsen-numa ("numa" meaning marsh). Small and medium ponds are dotted around Shinsen-numa with wooden paths built on the wetland. Take in the magnificent scenery with the beautiful reflections on the water.

Lake Hangetsu Course

Lake Hangetsu is a volcanic lake located at the west foot of Mount Yotei and a landmark of Niseko. Get close to nature with large Japanese oak trees, wild plants, and flowers. With some luck, you may even see some wild animals. Walk along the promenade from the parking park down to the lakeshore.

Kagami-Numa Course

"Kagami" in Japanese means mirror, and with the crystal clear pond water, it's easy to see how the place got its name. The hiking course takes about 45 minutes to climb the 570m to the marsh and is an easy slope on a well-maintained path.

Iwaonupuri Course

Arrive on the summit of Mt Iwaonupuri in about an hour's hike with an altitude of 1309 meters. The trailhead is located at Goshiki Onsen with the trail looping around to also finish there; a great way to soothe tired muscles post-hike. This hike is a great way to work up a sweat.

This service is exclusive to Setsu Niseko guests.

Bookings must be made at least 2 days in advance of the tour.

Guest under the influence of alcohol and pregnant guests may not participate in the activities.

Cancellation within the specific time frame before booking commencement will incur cancellation fees as below:
The day before: a 50% cancellation fee
On the day: a 100% cancellation fee
No cancellation fee will be charged if the tour is cancelled due to bad weather conditions.
Cancellation includes changes that reduce the overall value of the booking and no-shows.

What do I need to bring for the hiking & trekking tours?

  • A towel, a hat, drinks, sunglasses, a bug spray
  • Food or drinks as needed
  • Cameras or electric devices at your own responsibility
  • Other valuables: when bringing any valuables, please remember to store them in the lockers provided.
  • Hiking equipment is needed for the Iwaonupuri Course.

What to wear for the hiking & trekking tours?

  • Make sure you are dressed in comfortable and movable clothing.
  • You may get wet and muddy depending on the course condition.
  • Using a bug spray is recommended during the tour if necessary.
  • Please wear sturdy shoes (hiking or climbing shoes are recommended) and rainwear.
