We are excited to share our journey as we prepare for opening, from our initial design vision inspired by ‘Setsu Getsu Ka’ right through to completion.

Naming is important. We wanted a name that represents who we are, whilst paying homage to the incredible beauty of our location, and the experience we aim to deliver to you – our Guests. One of our core missions is to serve as a cherished destination for everyone all year round; a place where special memories are made amidst an inspiring natural landscape.

As we were working with our designers on the very early drawings for the site, the phrase 雪月花 ‘Setsu Getsu Ka’ came up in conversation as a phrase that encapsulates the beauty of design in Japan and to some extent the refined purity of what we were trying to achieve with the project. Meaning ‘Snow-Moon-Flower’ the phrase is taken from a poem by the famous Tang Dynasty poet ‘Bai Juyi’. Popular throughout China and Japan, the poem celebrates nostalgic moments spent together with loved ones as it reads: “I remember you especially when there is snow, the moon or flowers.”

The simplicity and beauty of the name ‘Setsu’ immediately struck a chord with the team and the designers started work on calligraphy motifs of Setsu’s distinctive logo mark, a design that encapsulates the purity of Japanese spirit, whilst adopting its own unique interpretation of foot step tracks in the snow in the birch forests.

The phrase ‘Setsu Getsu Ka’ perfectly captures the charm and natural beauty of Niseko’s four seasons — the pristine snow in winter, the warm glow of the autumn moon, the vibrancy of cherry blossoms blooming in spring, and the vivacity of summer as the land is carpeted in green.

Whether you plan to celebrate your white Christmas or spend a summer holiday with your loved ones at Setsu Niseko, our team will be here to ensure you feel comfortable and have a memorable stay with us.
