- By Sirada
At last the big day arrived. The ski lifts are open, our international guests have arrived and the snow has been falling steadily to deliver the perfect winter wonderland for the Official Grand Opening of Setsu Niseko. On Thursday 8th December, the team from Setsu Niseko and Seven Palms Resort held their official grand opening event for some 150 guests including the honourable Ambassador Peter Tan, Mayor of Kutchan Kazushi Monji, Director General of Shiribeshi Government Takao Amanuma, Shiribeshi Officials, Kutchan Town Council Officials, Chairman and Vice Chairman of Kutchan Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Kutchan Tourism Association, Counsellors from the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Japan and Enterprise Singapore, and dear colleagues and friends from our local community.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the celebrations, the event was a big success only made possible by your presence. Many of you may have seen the grand 7m Christmas Tree which has been waiting patiently to be lit since 1 December. Our Grand Opening centred around the Official Light Up Ceremony with speeches by SC Global’s Chairman Mr Simon Cheong and the Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore. A fantastic fireworks display over Mount Yotei completed the outdoor activities, Christmas Carols by our local artists set the mood for the evening and a party at méli mélo -Yuki No Koe- showcased all our dining outlets from méli mélo -Yuki No Koe-, AFURI, Sushi Kato INORI to Tempura Araki.
Mr.Cheong, Chairman & Founder of SC Global the development company of Setsu Niseko gave a heartfelt speech about his vision for a projects which he has been passionately working on for over 5 years “We chose to embark on the project because we believe in Niseko and we believe in the long-term future of Niseko, as one of Asia’s leading luxury hospitality markets” He added “We wanted to make a difference not just in terms of architecture and design, but in terms of scale. Niseko deserves larger developments like Setsu Niseko that can enhance the offering of services and facilities to all visitors, whether they are from overseas or within Japan”.
Ambassador Mr.Peter Tan who joined our celebrations from the embassy in Tokyo last night added "The investment in Setsu Niseko plays an important role in accelerating the Niseko and Hokkaido economy. As the Singaporean Ambassador, it brings me great joy to see a Singaporean brand name here in Japan. I believe this will bond the two nations even more."
Guests continued to party throughout the evening enjoying cocktails from Afuri, Hokkaido wines and beer and a delicious showcase from each of the restaurants.
The opening of Setsu Niseko could not have been better timed; it is a significant time of tremendous optimism for the town. The ski slopes are open and we see the welcome return of foreign travelers.Thank you to everyone who joined us for the celebrations. May we wish you all an exciting and happy season ahead and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.
