While Niseko’s white season may have come a little later than expected this year, the long-awaited snow finally came to town just in time for Setsu Niseko’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, marking the start of our fourth winter season in Niseko.
Coinciding with the day our hotel officially opened its doors in 2022, this yearly event has grown into one of our most beloved traditions. A way of welcoming the much-anticipated winter in Niseko with our guests and the local community.
Designed to be an intimate event this year, Setsu Niseko’s cosy lobby was soon enveloped with the soft and comforting melodies of a keyboard, skillfully played by a local musician at 16:30. Accompanied with complimentary drinks including sparkling wine, hot wine and juices, generously provided by our very own Lounge Bar by Park90, the lobby was enveloped in a bright and warm atmosphere that guests greatly enjoyed.
Holiday cheer could be felt in the air and continued throughout the evening as Santa Claus came for a surprise visit, making sure to greet every kid and adult that saw him.
As the clock neared 17:50, it was time for everyone to make their way outside for the main event. Led by our Hotel Manager, Michiko Tamoto, anticipation among guests built up as she opened up the ceremony with few words of gratitude and well wishes for the rest of the season.
“Welcome to the Setsu Niseko Lighting Ceremony. This is our 4th lighting of our beautiful, big Christmas Tree. We are so excited for the season ahead and to be able to do this with you all.
To me, Setsu Niseko is not just a hotel but a destination for all from small children to grandparents. It is the experience that matters and we want you to feel welcomed and have a great time with us, not just tonight but throughout your stay, and every time you visit Setsu Niseko. Thank you for joining us tonight and letting us be part of your winter holiday.”
Finally, as the guests joined in on an enthusiastic countdown, Setsu’s signature seven-metre Christmas Tree came to life, lighting up Niseko’s winter nights for the weeks to come.
